Hot Air Balloon and Wine Tasting Private Guided Tour

Defy gravity and hover over the Stellenbosch winelands in a hot air balloon. Depending on the wind direction, you will drift towards the Paarl or the Stellenbosch countryside but still get splendid views of the entire winelands’ terrain and the kilometre high Table Mountain from either side. With nobody knowing the landing location! We will stay connected with your pilot to arrange your pick-up at the end of the balloon flight. After the inclusive breakfast, the tour will go straight into Stellenbosch for an orientation of one of South Africa’s most historic towns before carrying on to Lanzerac wines, Delaire Graff wine and Franschhoek. The wine tastings will vary between southeast facing and southwest facing grape varietals of both the Banhoek and Franschhoek valley. In the end, your tour will travel for an hour back to Cape town past the Drakenstein Correctional service where you may take a picture with a life size bronze sculpture of Nelson Mandela before dropping off at your hotel.

Itinerary
Klein Joosternberg farm
Klein Joo Sternberg is the starting point for your Hot air balloon experience. Once the balloon is heated, you will take off and enjoy the views of the Stellenbosch winelands. The Simonsberg mountain and the Paarl rock mountain will also be in sight. The flight takes about an hour before you land and then brought back to the starting point for your inclusive breakfast.
DISCLAIMER: The tour will proceed to wine tasting section should the hot air balloon ride be cancelled due to bad weather.
Stellenbosch Town
Nestled between the Stellenbosch hills and the Jonkershoek Mountain is South Africa’s second oldest colonial town, Stellenbosch! Whitewashed Cape Dutch style homes from as early as the 17th century makes a beeline along the old streets of Stellenbosch, giving one a nostalgic feeling of an era gone by. Dutch devised furrows and English oak trees graces the old town, creating an atmosphere endemic to this corner of South Africa. In the heart of the historic village are museums for those wanting to travel back in time, Art galleries for art connoisseurs and other diverse types of shops and cafes for an ordinary visitor. Upon arriving in Stellenbosch, your tour guide will give you an orientation of the town before he drops you off at the heart of the town and allow you a much-needed opportunity to walk around and feel the pulse of this majestic, and historic town under your feet.
Lanzerac Wine estate
Lanzerac is one of the very oldest wine making estates in South Africa. Lying a few minutes just outside the Stellenbosch town, their lands have been used for the growing vineyards since the twilight of the 17th century. Today, through the experience acquired over 3 centuries, Lanzerac continues to make world class wines and boast of being the first farm to bottle a South African wine called Pinotage. A variety of tasting options are offered here, and you will have the opportunity to experience the wine and chocolate pairing option.
Delaire Graff Estate
Few wineries around the world offers a luxurious experience in all aspects like the Lawrence Graff owned Delaire Graff. Situated along the famous Hell’s-heights pass, Delaire Graff enjoys uninterrupted views of the Drakenstein mountains and the Banhoek valley. Bronze sculptures by world renown artist such as Delan Lewis give you a guard of honour from the gate to the tasing room entry where stunning paintings graces the walls. Complementing the stunning landscape and well-designed buildings are the award- winning wines that you will taste here. The vineyards in the Banhoek valley enjoys a south-east facing slope that is cool in the mornings but has adequate solar radiation through the day and thus producing some of the best cabs in the area. Here you will try 3 white wines, 3 red wines and a rose. You will also be more than welcome to include the famous Delaire Graff cheese platter at own cost.
Chef's warehouse at Maison
Maison is one of the 3 homes to Chef’s warehouses in Cape town. Driven by the idea of small tasting plates and sharing experience, the Chef’s warehouse is one of the best restaurants offering a casual fine dining dinners and lunch. The menu is a set menu and varies from season to season.
NOTICE: Lunch is at own cost. You may also have lunch at any other restaurant of your choice. Please give us a notice in advance should you require us to make lunch reservations for you.
Franschhoek Town
Franschhoek was formerly known as the Elephant’s corner, due to the many herds of elephants that once roamed this area before the arrival of the French farmers from Europe. Today Franschhoek is a top destination for visitors from all over the world. The vineyards are manicured to perfection, there is a world class restaurant everywhere you look, and the hotel service is so extravagant in this town that one wonders if anyone is making a profit. Some believes that Franschhoek is one tiny millionaire’s hobby place! You will be more than welcome to walk around here and explore the town before your last tasting at Dieu Donne wines.
Diue Donne Wines
Situated on the South-West facing slopes of the Drakenstein mountains, Dieu Donne vineyards enjoys a cooler climate combined with rocky soils from weathered granite. The wines here ranges from new styled wines to old, styled reds that competes very well with some of the best wines out of Bordeaux. Complementing the beautiful wines are the sweeping views of the Franschhoek valley from the well- located tasting room.
