Your 7-Day Itinerary in Cape Town

This little yet valuable map will make you discover all the major Cape Town destinations in just 1 week. This special Cape Town itinerary will take you from bustling city life to dazzling nightlife and rich cultural history. 

Cape Town Attractions

Day 1 – Arrival at Cape Town International Airport

After arriving at Cape Town International Airport, you’ll need to make your way to your accommodation.  Look for the airport shuttle or taxi service counter and arrange for a transfer to your accommodation. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer service in advance for added convenience.

Once you arrive at your accommodation, check in and freshen up. Later in the day, explore your accommodation’s surroundings. Around the afternoon, visit the nearby V&A Waterfront which is probably one of the top Cape Town Attractions.  

This is the perfect hub to get oriented and get the experience of how dynamic it is indeed. You can try some local cuisine here. Moreover, visit a food market at V&A and there you can find everything from artisan coffee, bubble tea, pizza, burgers, lamb pitas, and flatbread.

After that, head to your accommodation and get a good night’s rest so you can start your Cape Town Tour the next day.

Day 2 – Robben Island Tour

In the morning, head to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront to take a ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a powerful reminder of South Africa’s struggle for freedom and democracy.

You will have the opportunity to tour the maximum security prison and learn about the conditions of the political prisoners who were held there. The tour lasts approximately 3.5 hours, including the ferry ride.

After returning from Robben Island, spend the afternoon exploring the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. This bustling harbour area offers a wide variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

Take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the magnificent views of Table Mountain and the sea. Furthermore, visit the Two Oceans Aquarium to see marine life from both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

If you’re interested in local history, check out the Nelson Mandela Gateway Museum. It offers exhibits on the struggle for democracy in South Africa. In the evening, enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants in the area before heading back to your hotel.

Day 3 –Boulders Beach & Cape Point Tour

The next morning, take a scenic drive along the coastline to Boulders Beach, where you can see a colony of African penguins. These adorable creatures are a highlight of the Cape Peninsula and are sure to delight visitors of all ages. Walk along the boardwalks and watch the penguins waddle and swim in their natural habitat.

After visiting the penguins, continue on to Cape Point, the south westernmost point of the African continent. Take the funicular or hike to the top to witness the scenic views of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans converge. You can also explore the historic lighthouse and learn about the history of the area.

On the way back, stop at the picturesque seaside town of Simon’s Town for lunch and to explore its charming shops and cafes. Thereafter, return to Cape Town in the evening, feeling invigorated by the natural beauty of the Cape Peninsula.

Day 4 – Muizenburg and Kalk Bay Tour

Start the fourth day off with a visit to Muizenberg, a charming seaside town known for its colourful beach huts and surf culture. Stroll along the beachfront and watch the surfers catch waves or take a surfing lesson yourself. If you’re not interested in surfing, you can still enjoy the beach and views of the Indian Ocean.

After Muizenberg, head to Kalk Bay, a quaint fishing village with a bohemian vibe. Browse the shops and galleries along the main street. Or, stop for a coffee or lunch at one of the many trendy cafes and restaurants. Be sure to visit the Kalk Bay Harbour and watch the fishing boats come in with their catch of the day.

If you’re interested in history, visit the Kalk Bay Heritage Trail to learn about the area’s rich cultural and architectural history. You can also visit the nearby St. James Beach and its iconic tidal pool, a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing.

In the late afternoon, return to Cape Town and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Day 5 – Stellenbosch & Franschhoek Tour

Today, explore the world-renowned wine region of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, located just a short drive from Cape Town. You’ll have the opportunity to taste some of South Africa’s best wines through this Stellenbosch & Franschhoek Wine Tours. In addition, experience the beautiful scenery of the Cape Winelands.

Start the day in Stellenbosch, a historic town with a rich cultural heritage. Take a walking tour of the town to see its beautiful architecture and learn about its history. You can also visit the Stellenbosch Museum and learn about the town’s colonial past.

After Stellenbosch, head to Franschhoek, a picturesque town known for its wine and gourmet cuisine. Stop at one of the many wine estates in the area for a wine tasting and tour. You can also explore the town’s many galleries, shops, and restaurants.

Stellenbosch & Franschhoek Tour

Day 6 – Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden Tour

On the sixth day of your 7-day Cape Town itinerary, spend exploring the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. It is located at the eastern foot of Table Mountain. This world-renowned garden is home to over 7,000 species of plants, including many indigenous to South Africa.

Be sure to visit the Canopy Walk, a steel and timber structure that allows visitors to walk through the treetops and enjoy stunning views of the garden and surrounding mountains. If you’re interested in hiking, take a walk up Skeleton Gorge which starts at the lower slopes of Table Mountain. The hike takes approximately three hours and offers awe-inspiring views of the garden.

In the evening, enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants in the nearby suburb of Newlands. It offers a variety of cuisines to suit all tastes.

Day 7 – Final Day – Departure

Today is the final day of your one-week Cape Town Tour. Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time to do some last-minute sightseeing or shopping.

If you have a morning flight, you may want to visit the V&A Waterfront one last time to pick up some souvenirs or gifts.

If you have a later flight, you can visit one of Cape Town’s many beaches, such as Camps Bay or Clifton. In the afternoon, make your way to the airport for your departure flight.
