Nyala Safari Lodge is in the Big 5 Balule Nature Reserve, part of Greater Kruger. Self-drivers from Johannesburg take about 6 hours, leaving cars at the gate for a 40-minute transfer to camp. Alternatively, fly into O.R. Tambo, connect to Hoedspruit-Eastgate Airport, or arrange scheduled or private transfers via reservations.

Kruger is a fantastic year-round safari destination, with hot summers (November–April) and crisp, dry winters (May–August). Summer brings lush greenery, ideal for birdwatching and spotting young impala lambs. Winter’s dry landscape and scarce water attract predators to waterholes, making it easier to spot big game. Expect dramatic skies, cool evenings, and warm, dry days.
The Balule Nature Reserve is a low-risk malaria area, but it’s best to consult your doctor for advice. Recommended medications for Kruger include Malarone, Doxycycline, or Melfloquine. Mosquitoes are more common during the wet, warmer season. To protect yourself, use mosquito repellent and creams as additional preventive measures for a safe safari.
The bush at Nyala Safari Lodge is constantly changing, offering a unique experience daily. Wildlife regularly visits the waterhole or the seasonal river, including giraffes, elephants, impala, and occasional predators.
